Roots of American Music.
A group of talented, local musicians will look at roots of the uniquely American musical sounds of blues, bluegrass, country and ragtime by performing and discussing the music played in the time of the early settlers, the Revolutionary War and the Civil War eras, and the early days of phonographs and radio that brought different musical sounds to all areas of the country. Music that will be performed and will include early dance tunes -- including George Washington's favorite dance tune -- early American string band music, early American songwriters like Stephen Foster and songs by rural and urban white and Black musicians.
The program was developed by Clinton resident Matt McConeghy and David Shnaider of Sterling, both experienced musicians, who will be joined by other local musicians.
