Janet Parnes (founder and proprietor of historical portrayals by Lady J) will be portraying first lady Dolley Madison in this live performance.

Wife of the fourth president of the United States, James Madison, Dolley Madison was first lady from 1809-1817, and was pivotal in defining the role of first lady, as we see it today. By working tirelessly with local charities and on social issues important to her, supporting science and exploration by fundraising for the Lewis and Clark expedition and risking her life helping to save some of the important historical artifacts from the White House when it was invaded and burned by the British during the War of 1812, Dolley Madison was an independent, intelligent, woman who dedicated her skills and courage to the United States, proving to be the kind of first lady we all can be proud of. Learn more about this important woman of American history during Ms. Parnes’ fascinating presentation.
